Hands down, the best book I've ever read about John The Baptist! I didn't expect this much content surrounding the man's life, given the relatively few pages of scripture devoted to him. Meyer, however, draws out every morsel in scripture and brings this man's life and ministry into three dimensions.The lessons presented are going to stay with me. This was a powerful book.

This book was written over a century ago but still speaks
clearly on the life and times of the Baptist.

I have to admit I was disappointed in the factual content, but John was basically unknown until he came out of the desert. So I should understand the problem of creating a biography of him.
written so you can imagine some of the thoughts that would have been going through John's mind when events such as Jesus coming to him to be baptised happened. It is great to read while studying that part of the bible.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. It was true to scripture and it gave me insights to the time and life of John the Baptist. it gave me many thoughts to ponder and to apply to my life. Very good book and I would encourage anyone to read it.
I can't really rate this properly as I have read only the first page. the print is SO SMALL that I need a magnifying glass. It's very 'clinical' reading also. I'm sure when the time is right, I'll be able to get through it. I really wanted to read and know more about John. Will have to wait.
There apparently is very little documentation on the personal life of John the Baptist. What we know about him can be found in the Bible. I think Meyer's forte in this book was to emphasize John's complete understanding and acceptance of his God-given purpose in life to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. His strict diet and remote living style kept him from getting caught up in the normal worldly things and helped to keep him focused on his mission. John was no ordinary man. Even Christ acknowledged the unique greatness of John the Baptist.
