The USA Today Bestselling Series Continues

The worst lies end up in the deep rough…

When a South Florida golf club is hit with a series of suspicious events on the eve of hosting a big tournament, there’s only one man to call.

Miami Jones.

But when a caddy goes missing after an altercation with Jones, Miami finds himself in the middle of the case, not just solving it.

Miami must navigate billionaire property developers engaged in a high-priced tit-for-tat, death threats and a state investigator who is interested in his girlfriend in a professional capacity and maybe more—to keep himself, the club and the great state of Florida well and truly out of the deep rough.

I hate to give Deep Rough 4 stars when so many people have given it 5, but I reserve 5 stars for epic books like Lonesome Dove. I've really enjoyed everything I've read by Elmore Leonard (similar writing style to A.J. Stewart), but I wouldn't give any of his books 5 stars either. So, I really enjoyed Deep Rough and would recommend it to any of my friends who are also avid readers.
There are a few things I like about Stewart's books. The characters who we want to like are really likable and believable; the characters we aren't supposed to like are not caricatures of bad guys; and the stories and dialogue are believable and entertaining. Like probably most avid readers, I picture the action in my head as I'm reading it. A.J. makes it very easy to do that because his descriptions of people, places, and events are vivid, but not overblown. He also doesn't make mistakes that would distract me. As a former baseball player (one year college only), and avid golfer, I'm familiar with most of the background material to A.J.'s stories. He has not made a single technical mistake that I've noticed in any of his books. It's a minor point, but it does distract me when it happens. Even his description in this book about the difficulty of hitting a driver off the fairway, and the risk/reward of such a shot, is perfect. The main character seems to be modeled after a very likeable Irish golfer who I could imagine making the same decisions and speaking the dialogue as the main golfing character in Deep Rough.
If you like golf, like mysteries, or don't care for either but want to be entertained for a few hours, buy Deep Rough.

I love this author and this character. I just moved out of Palm Beach County so I relate to all the places he goes. I have enjoyed all the books so far but this one wasn’t as interesting. I don’t care about golf at all and this did nothing to change my mind. Miami didn’t chase anyone or beat them up. I love when he gets even or has his friend gently talk to someone. I felt like I was at a golf game and that was boring.
I am growing fonder of the Miami Jones series with each book I read. He is a very likable protagonist and the story moves along well. Deep Rough was longer than previous novels, and I am not sure there were enough twists and turns in the story to justify the additional pages. And, one final gentle note. His girlfriend is good looking. Got it.

I continue to appreciate reading each of these stories with a minimum of gratuitous swearing and excessive violence. Probably a PG rating. Overall, I recommend all of these books. Mr. Stewart focuses on the story and the characters, not providing gritty dialog.
A. J. Stewart has written a fascinating, complex, completely enjoyable mystery that had me guessing most of the way through about the name of the bad guy. Just when I thought I knew the identity, I was distracted by other misleading evidence or clues. That the story took place at a golf tournament in Florida, had an alligator munch on someone, and included interesting believable characters made it even more enjoyable. The forward momentum was constant and excellent, I lived in the book, and the story came to a satisfying resolution, making this a five-star book in my estimatjon.
I didn't realize that these books were part of a "series." I usually don't buy those books because the ones I have purchased seem to be a ploy to keep you buying the next book. Each of A.J. Stewart's books can stand alone. Yes, it's good to recall characters from each, but you don't have to read them all.

Stewart is able to flesh out characters so that they are consistent through each book and through the series. I love Ron, Danielle, and the settings. I also love Miami Jones, who is multi-talented. I enjoy a tightly woven mystery, and this book qualifies. My favorite part was the ending. I'm not giving it away. 😄
I found this book through BookBub and chose it because I have a thing for books set in Florida and I love golf. I've never lived there but the state must be filled with nuts, crooks, more nuts and really old people.

While not as whacky as some Florida writers, there were a couple of laugh out loud moments. But the writing is strong and Miami and Danielle are engaging, intelligently written. The plot carried me right along and I'll be back for more.

My only disappointment is this is #6 and now I have to go back to #1 knowing what's ahead...But I know I'll enjoy the reads.
I've loved Miami from the first pages of the first book. That's not to say the other characters fall short because I wish I knew a few of them in real life. We all need and should by our 40's have a friend like Ron who knows what kind of car we should drive. Are you a Porsche or a Cadillac? We all deserve a relationship where our work is understood and appreciated like Danielle. I'd love to have a Sally to be my white board who throws light on what I already know but don't always focus on. A Lizzy to do our research and pray for us when we push the limits. These characters reflect our lives and hopefully what we have but don't always recognize in the people we surround ourselves with. You'll love them like you love the people they represent in your own life.

Not a huge golf fan but I learned a few things. The suspense and mystery ever present surrounding Miami didn't fail in this book. Always pleased to have baseball thrown in the mix! Alligators not so much but just like the facts on grass you've been more educated while entertained.

I'm patiently waiting for the next book. Wedding bells? How's the Caddy drive? Why is Miami the front man of Lenny's business and not Ron? A.J. Stewart continues to leave me in suspense.
